About Us

We have heritage, we have tradition, and we are ecumenical and evangelical, but most important we have a vision for this Body of Christ and its mission.

 We have a Heritage

--- Our church heritage began in 1869 when several people met in a store building and were pastored by Methodist Circuit Riders. The Methodist Church was the very first church in Fort Meade. The present church building held its first service in April 1912. Additions and improvements have been made over the years, including our famous stain glass windows. Some of our members are descendants of many generations, going back as far as the ninth generation.

We have our traditions

--- To name a few, our Chancel Choir yearly performs a Christmas Cantata and our Christmas Eve service that began on the front lawn of the church as a community sing, proceeding into the sanctuary for worship service. On Maundy Thursday, we unite with the Presbyterian Church to worship and have communion. Vacation Bible School brings 100 children through our doors to learn about Jesus. Our services are the traditional service, with communion the first Sunday of each month. Dinners on the grounds are frequent with lots of good fellowship.

We are ecumenical and Evangelical

--- Our pastor and church are active in the Fort Meade Ministerial Association. Several services are held together with other churches in the community throughout the year. We serve by random acts of kindness as in Celebrate Jesus Week, serving coffee to passers by the church on a cold winter morning, helping the H.E.L.P. organization in Fort Meade as well as other community happenings.

"The First United Methodist Church of Fort Meade is a church with open hearts, open doors and open minds".
